Review: Mistaken Identity

One of the things I love about my job is getting to see the new popular reading books.

Mistaken Identity by Don and Susie Van Ryn and Newell, Colleen and Whitney Cerak with Mark Tabb, tells the story of two girls involved in an auto accident. One survives, the other dies, however there is a mix up on the identity of the survivor. This true story is told from the perspective of both families, one who thought they buried their daughter and the other praying while their daughter struggled with severe brain injuries and the blog that was posted as the young woman recovered. What is impressive about these two families and their mixed up tragedy is that their faith allows them to accept what has happened and still offer encouragement and thanks for the recovery of the surviving daughter.

For everyone's info: this book came from a student request and we were able to order it right away. It's not on the shelves just yet but thanks to staff like Beth it will soon be ready for checkout. Our student "requestor" gets first dibs on the book but people can check later to see if it's available or put on a hold -- check with the reference desk if you need help.

***"Spoiler alert!" What is a spoiler alert? When we think the comment definitely contributes to the discussion of the book, but might give away some plot elements, we'll put a Spoiler Alert at the beginning of the post, just to warn you.***

This book is definitely a must read! It is a very emotional book and I found myself with tears in my eyes as my heart went out to the families for all they went through. It was very exciting for the Ceraks' to find that their daughter who was buried was actually alive; however, at the same time it was very devastating for the Van Ryns' to have to go through such a loss. Also, it was awesome to see how much support was given to both families throughout everything. This book was very well written and is a very easy read. I would definitely recommend this book!
